Situation:
There are three different town centres within the municipal boundaries:
Benalmádena Pueblo which consists of the old part of the town and is the municipal capital. It is the primitive town which was founded by the Moors and is situated on the hillside of the Sierra de Mijas.
Benalmádena Costa, which is the tourist resort and the beach area. It is here where the main leisure activities are to be found, as well as the hotels. The old Cadiz road and the Benalmadena Marina run through this area.
Arroyo de la Miel, which grew from the farmhouse where the Italian, Felix Silesio, built the paper factory for the Royal Playing Card Factory in Macharaviaya in the 18th Century. It is currently the area where a large part of the town´s population live, after it expanded as a result of the construction of the commuter railway at the beginning of the 20th Century.
The town offers a wide variety of leisure and tourism activities, from golf, beach- with almost 13,000 hotel places- to golf courses, an amusement park, marina, discos and pubs, restaurants, an auditorium, aquarium, dolphinarium, casino, Exhibition Centre and Pre-Columbian Art Museum, and the Buddhist Temple (Stupa of Enlightenment) and Hindu temple, as well as a cable car to the top of Monte Calamorro.
